I am not a picky eater. But when it comes to drinks, I am the most pickiest person in the world. My drink consumption consists of water, the shakes featured on this blog (for special occasions) and perhaps a hot chocolate on a cold day.
I just can’t get into replacing a meal or snack with liquid. It never fills me up. Plus, I don’t like having sugar-filled shakes for a meal.
So, I was pleasantly surprised when I made this shake and I did get filled up. And, it’s not a killer sweet drink (which makes it more appealing to me!). Rather, the ginger and lime gives it a more… savory (?) taste.I finally have a “drinkable meal” for when I’m on the go 🙂
So warning: do not expect a dessert-like drink (if you do, just add a banana/sweetener!)
Ginger-Pear Avocado Shake (Paleo)

1 pear, peeled and sliced
2 cups fresh spinach
1 and 1/2 cups almond milk
5 ice cubes

optional: protein powder, coconut sugar, honey, or maple syrup if sweetness is desired (I omit though)
Directions:
Blend all ingredients together until smooth.

This would likely be good with kale too or kiwi. I make a kiwi avocado lime smoothie that I really enjoy. It has tang and zero added sweeteners, for my personal preference. It’s on my blog, although anyone could add sweetening to it, if they desired. I really like the 3 ingredient smoothie, as is though, and I also like that I don’t have any industrialized, warehouse-made, or lab creations in it either, just whole foods as they exist from the tree they grow from. 😉
I enjoy reading your posts very much! Thank you for the added inspiration for my current Joy Journey to Health, which has been an ongoing progress for me.

Of course 🙂 Oh, I’m going to have to try kiwi next time now! 3 ingredients, can’t get more easy than that! Thanks for the idea!

i think so too – it’s hard not to use lime and ginger in every juice or smoothie I make!

Totally agree with you about liquid not cutting it as a meal replacement- somehow a bunch of carrot sticks with yoghurt is so much more filling than blasting it in a blender! Great recipe too

Yes!! Love the crunch of carrots… And I think it’s definitely an issue of needing to chew on something in order to feel satisfied.

The minced ginger is a surprise. In fact, a nice kick! 🙂
